DEFbrass is a brass dectet founded by young musicians united by a passion for chamber music and a desire to showcase the full range and versatility of brass instruments. Its members perform with leading musical institutions in Prague, bringing orchestral, chamber and solo experience to their work together.

The name DEFbrass comes from the word ‘defiant’: standing firm and going against the current. This idea shapes the ensemble’s mission to challenge familiar perceptions of brass instruments and find new opportunities for them in chamber music. Rather than rejecting tradition, DEFbrass builds on it in its own way, exploring the possibilities of a brass ensemble in a broader context.

The repertoire spans different periods and genres, from original works for brass ensembles and transcriptions of classical repertoire to contemporary music. The ten-piece line-up offers a rich palette of tonal colours and expressive possibilities that shape the ensemble’s concert programmes.

Education and outreach are also an important part of DEFbrass’s work. The ensemble introduces young listeners and music students to brass instruments, demonstrates their potential in chamber ensembles and encourages a love of playing together.

Through concerts, educational programmes and encounters with young musicians, DEFbrass aims to support the development of brass chamber music and share its experience with the next generation in the Czech Republic.

DEFbrass combines professional performance with a search for new ways to bring brass chamber music to today’s audiences.
